Volunteer Opportunities

BBQ CrewVolunteers are vital to the success of the Wine Country Bike Trek. The hard work of the Wine Country Bike Trek volunteer is very much appreciated by the Trekkers and is the reason that they come back to join us year after year. Ideally, we are looking for hard working, fun loving volunteers who can commit to working 6-8 hours a day for all three days. Volunteers who work the three days will receive all amenities of the trek….

Please note that there are a limited number of volunteer spaces available and you must be a non-smoker. Below is a list of the general duties of the volunteers.

  • Breakfast/Dinner Food Service/Monitors: Working with caterers, assist in table set-up, replenish food, assist in serving, dishes and clean up.
  • Bike Mechanic: Provide mechanical assistance at check-in and in camp.
  • Camp Set-Up/Breakdown: Set-up and break down all campsite arrangements: tables, awnings, stations, signs and banners. Assist in cleaning up area after trekkers have left; break down tables and awnings, load supplies onto trucks, etc. Conduct final walk-through of site.
  • Camp Monitor: Patrol camp area making sure restrooms are adequately stocked, trash barrels are empty, and camp is properly shut down at 10 pm.
  • Gear Loading/Unloading: Assist Trekkers in loading gear onto gear trucks and unloading once truck arrives in camp
  • Gear Truck Driver: Drive 24 ft. moving truck to and from camps, assist with loading, unloading and sorting luggage at campsites.
  • Massage Team: Certified massage therapists to volunteer their gifted hands to grateful cyclists.
  • Rover Crew: Monitor and communicate any problems/concerns to appropriate staff and volunteers along the route. Notify proper medical authorities in case of an emergency. Must be a HAM radio operator. Provide mobile support (mechanical, water, rides) to Trekkers on route under direction of Route Crew manager. Your vehicle will be marked for easy identification.
  • Route Sweep: Ride at the tail end of the ride.  Encourage riders along the route.  Changes tires, provide support to riders along the route.
  • SAG Crew: Set up festive rest stop with food, drink, table and canopy for that day. Provide food (snacks or lunch), water, and fun to Trekkers on designated route. Rest stop volunteers are costumed and are responsible for decorating to the assigned theme. Pick up supplies at designated location, clean rest stop and return remaining supplies at the end of the day.
  • Trekker Registration: Check in Trekkers by verifying that they have met the minimum in paid pledges, and have turned in their waiver and medical release form. Issue Trekker packet and T-shirt. Instruct Trekker as to next steps.
  • Trekker Check-In: Give Trekkers encouragement as they ride into camp (they have just ridden 40+ miles). Check off Trekker’s number as they come in for the day to confirm when all Trekkers are in camp. Answers to any questions.

All volunteers will be expected to work hard and have fun in the process. Get your friends to volunteer with you! Whether you come alone or with others, you are guaranteed to leave with many newfound friends.
